Radiance of the Seas Day 12

Aboard the Radiance of the Seas somewhere off the coast of Mexico.

Greetings from the “plague ship.” This is day twelve of the fifteen-day cruise. So far, one passenger was evacuated in Lima with severe appendicitis. He had to have emergency surgery and the captain said he was doing well. Then yesterday one passenger and one crew member died. They are now resting in the morgue till we get to San Diego on Sunday.

In spite of this gloomy news we are having a great time. The weather has been perfect and the seas are very calm. I have been playing mah jongg for two or three hours a day, involving myself in various onboard activities and enjoying the dining experiences. The captain is hilarious. He has funny answers for everything and is quite a comedian. Yesterday we got to tour the bridge, which was fascinating and very informative. The officers let us go wherever we wanted and let us sit in the captain’s chair. We poked around up there for about an hour and asked a million questions.

We have been buying tee shirts and nothing else. Rather than washing our tees we just buy new ones. And of course, everytime I win something I get another tee shirt. The other day my team won the miniature golf tournament and now I have a complete set of medals. Michael Phelps, watch out! Today our group from Cruise Critic had a slot pull in the casino and we basically won our money back, which was better than losing.

Some passengers are complaining constantly about the fact that we will have five consecutive sea days but we don’t mind at all. There is plenty to do and of course, to eat. I had to lie down today because I was so exhausted from all the activities. I haven’t had time to even read my book. There have been constant parties for the passengers and right now I am getting ready for yet another party so I will say goodbye till next time from somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.
