After 26 days of sailing we are off the ship. Vancouver is a lovely seaside city surrounded by mountains. There are some tall buildings, a downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. There are several marinas, beaches and a lovely park. There are cruise ships docked in the harbor for the day. There is traffic. There is a place called Granville Island which has shops, art galleries and a high-end produce market. There is a large Chinatown and there are many, many Asians in residence, mostly Chinese. There is an excellent public transportation system, an old town area, another trendy shopping and eating area, a university and beautiful weather. We took a sight-seeing bus and popped on and off several times. It is good for two days, so we will probably do the same tomorrow. We will probably go to Chinatown for dinner tonight since we are both craving Chinese food. We were upgraded to a suite at the hotel, which is way too big for the two of us but we are not complaining about the two bedrooms, kitchen, living room, washer-dryer and hugh bedroom with walk-in closet. It' s on a high floor and we have a great view. The people are very nice here. The one negative so far has been the large amount of homeless people who constantly ask for money. They hang around the downtown area and fortunately are not near our hotel.
We were sad to leave the ship but we both realized it was time to go. I am slowly getting my land legs back and am gearing up for the rest of the trip. We will be here another two days so we can see everything. We were here about ten years ago but don't remember too much and it has changed. More to come.
