Manchester

The weather was beautiful so we decided to go to Manchester for a day of people watching and shopping. We hit all the stores including Selfridges which is the best of the best. Of course, I bought nothing there because it is super expensive and makes Neiman Marcus look like Marshalls but it is something to see.

I did get three camisoles for seven pounds in the discount store. Anyway, the people watching is amazing here. It is a real melting pot and you see everything from South African ultra orthodox rabbis to hair krishnas dancing in the streets. In fact, Jerry led a band of hair krishnas dancing and singing down the street I couldn't get away from them fast enough. He has definitely lost his mind. Oh yes, he is growing a beard.

Carol and Ian are the most wonderful hosts. They can't do enough for us. What wonderful friends. We are really getting a strong dose of English life. Tonight we went to the Lytham Music Festival and stayed for the fireworks. We ran into some people from the tennis club who were with us in Werne. It feels like a hundred years ago that we were there. I am getting to know my way around town very well and Jerry knows where all the 99 pence stores are. He also knows where all the one pound stores are. We are also developing a set of manners, none of which we learned in Brooklyn or the Bronx. We are so polite. We even thanked the bus driver when we got off. Everyone here does it. They also say excuse me when they walk into you by accident. They also have nice and friendly discussions with the store cashiers. In Florida the people in back of you would bite your head off for holding up the line. Here they just wait and smile. The food is great. Whoever said that English food isn't good doesn't know what they are talking about. It's delicious. Even Chinese take away. I am even beginning to speak real English.
