Chester

We took the motor coach to the city of Chester, with its Roman wall and Tudor architecture it is quite lovely. So are the stores which are some of the finest in England. The ride would have been ver pleasant had it not been for the three yakking magpies in the seats behind us who never shut their mouths for one minute. We were ready to choke them.

Chester is on the border between England and Wales, where you cannot understand a word they say. Walking around town and on top of the wall was very interesting amd very hot. The temperature extremes are wild. One minute you are freezing and the next you are sweltering. The people here are nice and friendly and more than willing to help. We took the sightseeing bus to make sure we saw it all and we did. We had a leisurely lunch on the Main Street and watched the constantly changing tabloid outside the restaurant window. Amazingly enough I did not actually shop. I was far too fascinated with the architecture. We learned that the Duke of Gloucestershire owns the whole city as well as most of London and that he is the richest man in England. We also learned that he is an excellent employer and is very good to the thousands who are in his employ. It surprised us to learn that every city, village or town in England with Chester in its name was originally settled by the Romans. Think abou it. There are many.

Ian kindly picked us up at the bus stop and Carol greeted us with "tea" which translates to us as a fantastic home made dinner worthy of the best restaurant. We are so lucky to have such wonderful friends.
