Our Anniversary

TOULON, FRANCE

We debarked early this morning and took a train to the small Frencb seaside resort town of Cassis. We arrived at the train station so early that the ticket office wasn't even open and the ticket machine wouldn't take our credit card and we didn't have enough coin. If not for the help of an adorable Frencb sailor we still would be standing there. He bought our tickets for us and we gave him all our coin plus a few American dollars as souveniers and a card with our name and address. He was the sweetest thing!

After a short train ride we arrived in Cassis. It is a very famous wine growing area of Provence and we took about a four mile walk through the vineyards down into the center of town, which was on the Mediterranean. There is a beautiful seaside promenade lined with cafes, shops, gelaterias and beautiful boats of all shapes and sizes. It seemed as though all of France was on holiday there. We walked the promenade both ways and then took a sightseeing tram. This place is right up there on my A list. We had gelato and a loaf of French bread for lunch. I wasn't going to leave France without eating a baguette.

After several more hours of walking the town we took the train back to Seine sur Mer where Equinox is docked. This was another hike of major proportions so I think I burned off all the gelato.

I would definitely return to Cassis for a longer stay. The physical beauty of the place is amazing, not to mention the wine and fresh seafood, the style and the general happiness of the place. The water is cold for swimming but so what. The place is fantastic!

Tonight we will celebrate our anniversary with a table for two by the window. No complaints here. It has been a special day so far.
