The Train
It is several hours later and we are still in a train, the third of four that we have to take to get to our final destination, Lake Guarda. They have all been regionl trains, “regionales” and therefore slow and crowded. I can deal with that as long as I have a seat, which I did not for the first hour. I was ready to kill my husband for making too short a connection. Anyway, we meandered through the small hill towns of Tuscany and the scenery was beautiful. The larger ones were Arezzo, Orvieto and Prato. Lots of smaaler ones where the train did not even stop.
We have just left Bologna and are headed for the last change of trains in Verona. It's warm, the windows are all open, everyone is blabbering on their cell phones and two nuns are staring at me!
There is magical quality to long train rides and I am actually enjoying it between my attacks of agita and guarding against pickpockets. We brought our lunch from the ship...bagels and lox and we stunk up the entire train. Everyone in Italy eats on the train, but not bagels and lox Also, the paper stuck to the warm bagels and that paper was pretty tasty as well as providing extra fiber.
We are both looking forward to two or three relaxing days in th Italian lake and alps area. As soon as we get a good internet connection we will post photos. Have to watch the beautiful scenery now. The nun is still staring at me.
